On the night of 29th January 2023, we lost Com. Ashoktaru, a fearless journalist, documentary film-maker and a committed member of CPI(ML) Liberation. We grieve his passing at the age of 67. Apart from being a journalist for Akashvani, he was known for his contributions for his contribution to literature and film-making, including ten documentaries that he made. Among them the documentary ‘Dhnara’ was awarded the BFJA prize. His documentaries, stories, and poems have reflected the struggles of the marginalized and working classes, including children affected by the COVID19 lockdowns.
He was also a member of the Calcutta Press Club and had played a crucial role in the working committee of the club including presiding over the body. He was also a member of East-Central Kolkata Local Committee of CPI(ML) Liberation. We was also a founding member of the forum ‘We the People of India’, formed in order to resist the fascist aggression of the BJP/RSS. On 30th January his body was donated to Sagar Dutta hospital in accordance to his speeches. Comrades from the party and his family paid their final respects. We mourn his untimely and sudden loss.
