Com. Sunanda Bhat passed away on April 3, 2023. She was born on 8 January 1930 at Pedne in Goa, whe completed her education fighting extreme poverty. She took the responsibility of the family doing odd tailoring jobs. Later She worked as a teacher, initially in a ZP school and then in Mumbai Municipal Corporation school. (She and her elder daughter graduated in Arts simultaneously and then she acquired B Ed qualification.) The progressive environment in the family moulded her in to a fighting woman. She organized the teachers in an union and joined the first ever strike by the teachers in Mumbai Municipal Schools which lasted 14 days and faced disciplinary action. After her retirement she organized the KG teachers in the private institutions. She was also a pioneer in organizing the domestic workers under the banner of Sarv Shramik Mahasangh.
